About ASD

Founded in 1988, the American School of Doha (ASD) is an independent co-educational day school located in a quiet suburb of Doha, Qatar. ASD provides English language instruction to students in Pre-kindergarten through grade 12, and offers a curriculum based on the American education system. ASD is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. All textbooks and supplemental materials are purchased from the U.S.

Student Body Makeup

Because Doha has a large expatriate community, ASD students come from diverse backgrounds. 470 students from 31 countries currently attend ASD. 17% of the student body comes from the host country, while approximately 60% come from North America.

Facilities

In 1998 ASD moved to newly built facilities on a four-hectare site. Facilities include 42 centrally air-conditioned classrooms, as well as gymnasium with aerobics and weight rooms, multi-purpose room, cafeteria, music room, drama room, two art rooms, two computer labs, and three science labs. The library contains over 15,000 volumes, and has computers available for research and Internet access. The campus also contains two tennis courts, a grassed playing field, outdoor basketball courts, a 25 meter heated and chilled swimming pool, and a covered play area.

Faculty

A qualified and energetic ASD faculty, consisting of 51 full and part time teachers, three administrators, ten teacher aides, two learning resource teachers, one nurse, and one full-time and one part-time guidance counselor, are committed to ensuring each child at ASD achieves their full potential. Most teachers are trained in the U.S. or Canada, and hold valid teaching credentials from their respective countries. When students leave ASD, they are well prepared to continue their education.
